Hourigan House offers Residential, Short stay services, Hourigan House is a large, purpose-built home approximately half a mile from Leigh town centre. Set within spacious grounds, the home has several lounges and dining areas of different sizes, including an activity lounge for those who enjoy arts and crafts; it also has a pleasant sun lounge.
Hourigan House is managed by Hazel Jackson, an experienced and qualified care professional, who has an excellent track record across a number of homes.
Hourigan House has 40 single rooms, including seven with en suite facilities. The home is tastefully decorated and there are TVs in all bedrooms.
There are a number of pleasant lounge areas and dining rooms throughout the home with large flat screen TVs and integral freeview channels. One of the lounges is fitted with a hearing loop, a discreet device to improve sound reception and aid those with hearing difficulties. Corridors are signed indicating the room numbers that can be found on that corridor; furniture, plants and ornaments are also placed at strategic spots around the home to act as landmarks. There is an extensive, wheelchair accessible garden with a purpose-built patio to the front of the home. This area has seating, raised flower beds, wind chimes, scented plants, awnings for shade, and al fresco dining. There is also a conservatory opening out onto the patio.
Additional services available to residents include a hairdresser who visits once a week, and newspaper and magazine deliveries, which are arranged through a local newsagent. These are charged on a weekly basis as used. There is also a shop trolley service for items such as greetings cards, toiletries, drinks and confectionery.
Activities at Hourigan are organised by the activities co-ordinator with the involvement of the care teams. These are designed to match residents’ interests and include a range of pursuits, such as dominoes, bingo, exercise classes, hand massage and nail treatments, manicures, handicrafts, carpet bowls, darts, reminiscence, and entertainers and excursions to places such as Rivington Barn, Southport, etc. An annual summer fête is held at the home. We also aim to accommodate specific requests from residents.
There is an extensive choice of meals at breakfast, lunch, tea and supper, prepared by our very experienced and competent catering team. We cater for people with special diets such as diabetic, low salt or vegetarian. Wine is offered with Sunday lunch. Birthdays and other special occasions are catered for, and al fresco dining is possible in the summer months.
The home is visited by ministers from the Church of England and Catholic Church, and residents can also attend local churches.
Hourigan House is within half a mile of a local market, country park, shops and Leigh town. There are garden centres, eating venues and a local library all within a few miles of the home. There is also a bowling green and local pub next door.
