Thorley House offers Residential, Short stay services and day care; Thorley House is a purpose-built home approximately one mile from Hindley town centre. The home has a dedicated care team and a well thought-out programme of daily activities, designed to reflect residents’ interests and wishes. It has been rated as a three star excellent service by the Care Quality Commission.
There are 40 single rooms including two with en suite facilities. All rooms have television points. Resident rooms are individually decorated and personalised with items of furniture and personal possessions, which is encouraged as an aid to maintaining independence and choice.
There are four lounges including a quiet room and visitors lounge. At least one lounge is fitted with a hearing loop, a discreet device to improve sound reception and aid those with hearing difficulties. Residents can choose to eat in one of two dining rooms or in their own room if they prefer. Thorley House is set within spacious grounds and there is a large well-kept garden at the rear of the building with patio areas. Both the garden and patio area are fully wheelchair accessible.
Additional services available to residents include a hairdresser who visits once a week, and newspaper and magazine deliveries which are arranged through a local newsagent. These services are charged on a weekly basis as used. There is also a shop trolley service for items such as greetings cards, toiletries, drinks and confectionery.
Thorley House enjoys an active social calendar and activities are offered seven days a week. These are directed by the residents and are amended as needed. The most popular activities are shopping (one-to-one trips), gentle movement to music, quizzes, bingo, handicraft, reminiscence (slides, memory box, scrap books, quizzes and so on), walks gardening, internet surfing, nail care and a range of games including skittles, bagatelle, carpet bowls and dominoes.
Thorley offers flexible meal times and a choice of menu. Snacks and drinks are available around the clock. There is a visitor’s room with facilities for making snacks and drinks. We ensure positive mealtime experiences for all residents including those with special needs, and aim to accommodate individual needs in a discreet manner and without disruption to others. Residents are encouraged to retain their independence as long as possible and this is facilitated by the way in which meals are served and table settings arranged to meet the eating needs of residents.
Weekly services are held in the home by local Church of England and Roman Catholic ministers. Arrangements can be made to visit other churches if requested in advance.
Thorley House is well situated close to shops, a garden centre and leisure centre. It is approximately one mile from Hindley town centre and four miles from Wigan town centre.
